Saltee Islands

The Saltee islands lie 5 kilometres off the coast of South Wexford, near the fishing village of Kilmore Quay.

The two islands, Great Saltee and Little Saltee, cover an area of 1.2 square kilometres, and with the exception of one family, are uninhabited.

The islands are a protected habitat, and are home to over 200 species of bird including Puffins, Gannets, and Razorbills.

The dramatic coastline, rugged seas, and unspoilt terrain of the islands are unique to the Irish coastline.

The islands are accessed by the Saltee Ferry which runs day trips from Kilmore Quay harbour, and are a popular destination for photographers, bird watchers, and hill walkers.
